Pipe Isolation Trace

The Pipe Isolation Trace functionality can be used to identify the nearest valves to be closed in order to isolate a selected pipe(s). The trace works outwards from selected pipes until the tracing tool reaches a valve node or the extents of the network.

To carry out a Pipe Isolation Trace:

1. Select the pipes that are to be isolated
2. Choose Tracing tools | Pipe isolation trace from the GeoPlan menu.
   • The trace will be carried out upstream and downstream from each selected pipe until the closest valve or the extent of the network is reached.
   • If a lateral node is encountered during a Pipe Isolation Trace, the tracing tool will continue the search along the pipe connected to the lateral node.

The valves identified by the trace to be closed will be selected in addition to the pipes to be isolated selected in Step 1.

A Pipe Isolation Trace log containing results of the trace and any errors or warnings as a result of running the trace will be displayed.

Errors or warnings will occur if:

• The trace reaches a water source (borehole, tank or surface source node) without passing through an intermediate valve.
• The trace reaches the extents of the network where the terminating item is not a water source.
