Importing Event Data

Event data can be imported from different formats. The tables below indicate which format can be used for each event type.

Importing from event files

To import event data from HydroWorks format

1. In the Explorer window, right-click on a model group.
2. From the pop-up menu, select either Import InfoWorksEventfrom event file or Import SWMMEventfrom event file (where Event is the Event type to be created).
3. Select the file to be imported.
4. Click Open to import the file.

A new event will be created.

Rainfall events

For Rainfall Events, initial conditions may be imported at the same time as the event. Data may also be imported into an existing rainfall event. See Importing and Exporting Rainfall Events for more details on importing rainfall.

Data can also be appended to an existing rainfall event:

1. In the Explorer window, right-click on the event.
2. From the popup menu, select either Import InfoWorksFrom event file or Import SWMMEventfrom event file.

Pollutograph events

For InfoWorks Pollutograph Events, choose files with the same base filename (the part of the filename before the dot). In the filename basepart.sfx the base is basepart and the suffix is sfx. If files with different base filenames are chosen, a different Pollutograph will be created for each base filename.

Data can also be appended to an existing event:

1. In the Explorer window, right-click on the event.
2. From the popup menu, select ImportFrom event file.

Importing from InfoWorks format CSV Files

Event data, including initial conditions, can be imported from csv files that are in the appropriate format. Further details on format requirements can be found in the Events - CSV File Format topic.

To import event data from a CSV file

1. In the Explorer window, right-click on a model group.
2. From the popup menu, select either Import InfoWorksEventfrom InfoWorks format CSV file or Import SWMMEventfrom InfoWorks format CSV file (where Event is the Event type to be created).
3. Select the CSV file to be imported.
4. Click Open to import the file.

A new event will be created.

Data can also be imported into an existing event from CSV:

Note: For information about importing from InfoWorks format CSV files to an existing rainfall event, see Importing and Exporting Rainfall Events.

1. In the Explorer window, right-click on the event.
2. From the popup menu, select Importfrom InfoWorks format CSV file.

When importing to an existing event, existing data will be overwritten. A prompt will appear giving the option to cancel the import.

Importing from generic CSV Files

Some events can be imported from a generic CSV file via the Import Time Varying Data from CSV dialog.

To import event data from a file in general CSV format

1. In the Explorer window, right-click on a model group.
2. From the popup menu, select either Import InfoWorksEventfrom InfoWorks format CSV file or Import SWMMEventfrom InfoWorks format CSV file (where Event is the Event type to be created).
3. Select the files to be imported (multiple files may be selected) and click Open. The Import Time Varying Data from CSV dialog is displayed.
4. Set the import parameters on the dialog.
5. Click OK to complete the import.

A profile will be created for each data series imported.

Rainfall data in multiple generic CSV files can also be imported into a single event via the Import Time Varying Data from CSV dialog. See Importing and Exporting Rainfall Events for further information.

Data can also be appended to an existing event:

1. In the Explorer window, right-click on the event.
2. From the popup menu, select Import | from generic CSV file.

Appending Rules

When appending data to an existing event, the following rules apply:

• Data can only be appended if it is of the same event type as the existing event.
• If the profile being imported has the same profile (monitor) name as an existing profile, it will be appended as a new sub event to the existing profile, provided the timesteps in the new profile do not overlap those in the existing profile. Profiles with overlapping timesteps will not be imported.
• If the profile being imported does not have a profile name, a new profile will be created in the existing event, provided the times and timesteps in the new profile match those in the existing profile.
• If the profile being imported has a different profile name to existing profiles, it will be imported as a new profile provided the times and timesteps in the new profile match those in the existing profile.

Importing from SWMM5 Text Files

To import event data from a SWMM5 text file

1. In the Explorer window, right-click on a model group.
2. From the popup menu, select Import SWMMEventfrom SWMM5 text file (where Event is the event type to be created).

   A standard Windows Open dialog is displayed.

3. Select the INP file to be imported.
4. Click Open to import the file.

An event, with the same name as the selected INP file, is added to the model group. Any data contained in the inp file will be included in the event. A log file may be displayed if any errors occurred during import.

Importing from SWMM5 External Time Series Files

To import event data from external SWMM5 time series files

1. Right-click on a model group in the Explorer window.
2. From the popup menu, select either Import InfoWorksEventfrom SWMM5 external times series file or Import SWMMEventfrom SWMM5 external times series file (where Event is the event type to be created).

   An Import external SWMM5 time series dialog is displayed. In this window:

3. Enter a name for the event, into which the data is to be imported, in the Title field.
4. Click on the + button. A Windows File Open dialog is displayed.
5. In this window:
   1. Select the file that contains the data to be imported.
   2. Click OK. The name of the selected file will appear in the Files box, and a preview of its contents will be displayed in the Preview box.

      Note that the name of the file that is listed first in the Files box will be used as the name of the event if no name has been specified in the Title field.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 if you want to import data from any other files for the same type of event.
7. In the Format field, select the format of data that is to be imported from the selected file(s). This is not required for level events.
8. In the Unit field, select the type of unit used in the imported files.
9. Click OK.

An event, with the name that was specified in the Title field, is added to the model group. Any data contained in the imported file will be included in the event.

Importing from XPRAFTS XPX files

To import event data from an XPRAFTS XPX file

1. Right-click on a model group in the Explorer window.
2. From the popup menu, select either Import InfoWorksEventfrom XPRAFTS XPX file or Import SWMMEventfrom XPRAFTS XPX file (where Event is the type of event to be created).

   A standard Windows Open dialog is displayed.

3. In this window:
   1. Enter the path to the xpx file to be imported in the File name box.
   2. From the Encoding dropdown list, select which encoding system is used in the event file to be imported. Currently supported systems are ANSI, UTF-8 (default) and UTF-8 BOM.
   3. Click Open to import the XPRAFTS data.

      A message is displayed when the import process is complete.

An event, with the same name as the file it was imported from, is added to the model group, and the data contained in the imported file will be included in the event.

Importing from XPSWMM/XPStorm XPX files

To import event data from an XPSWMM/XPStorm XPX file

1. Right-click on a model group in the Explorer window.
2. From the popup menu, select either Import InfoWorksEventfrom XPSWMM/XPStorm file or Import SWMMEventfrom XPSWMM/XPStorm file (where Event is the type of event to be created).

   A standard Windows Open dialog is displayed.

3. In this window:
   1. Enter the path to the xpx file to be imported in the File name box.
   2. From the Encoding dropdown list, select which encoding system is used in the event file to be imported. Currently supported systems are ANSI, UTF-8 (default) and UTF-8 BOM.
   3. Click Open to import the XPSWMM/XPStorm event data.

      A message is displayed when the import process is complete.

An event, with the same name as the file it was imported from, is added to the model group, and the data contained in the imported file will be included in the event.

Importing from InfoDrainage IDDX files

To import event data from an InfoDrainage file in the IDDX format

1. Right-click on a model group in the Explorer window.
2. From the popup menu, select the Import InfoWorksInflowfrom InfoDrainage data option.

   A standard Windows Open dialog is displayed.

3. In this window:
   1. Enter the path to the iddx file to be imported in the File name box.
   2. From the Encoding dropdown list, select which encoding system is used in the event file to be imported. Currently supported systems are ANSI, UTF-8 (default) and UTF-8 BOM.
   3. Click Open to import the InfoDrainage data.

      A message is displayed when the import process is complete.

An event, with the same name as the file it was imported from, is added to the model group, and the data contained in the imported file will be included in the event.
