Attach an External Reference

Attach images or DWG files as external references (xrefs) in your drawing. External references remain linked to the original file, so updates to the source file can be reflected in your drawing.

You can attach the following file types:

• DWG drawings
• Image files (.JPG, .PNG, .BMP, .GIF)

Drawings created in AutoCAD desktop or web apps will also maintain their external references more reliably when opened in the mobile app due to improved path resolution.

To attach an external reference

1. Open the External References palette then choose Attach. Alternatively, type ATTACH in the command line.
2. Choose a file you want to attach from the AutoCAD file manager, your Photo Library, or from your camera.
3. Specify the insertion point.
4. Specify the scale factor.
