Choose a shared network location for the administrative image.
A network share is an installation folder that all network computers can access. When you run the deployment, the process creates an administrative image and stores it in the network share. Any subfolders in a shared folder are automatically shared. Users install products from this network share.
Follow these best practices:
- Keep the share name simple and short, without spaces.
- Create the share folder at or near the top of the drive, such as
\\serverXX\Deployments. If you nest your deployment folder in subfolders, you may exceed the path length limit set by Windows.
- Create a separate folder for each deployment.
- If you plan to create a network log file, make sure that individual users have read/write access to the share.
- It's best to use UNC (Uniform Naming Convention) shared paths instead of mapped drives. However, if you map a drive from your shared network folder, make sure that all users map the folder to the same drive letter.
- If you plan deployments of different products, you can create separate product folders on the network share before you create the deployments.
- Include all products needed for a specific workflow in a single deployment. This makes it easier for you to distribute the deployment to a user group that uses that workflow.
