Overview of Design Files

Design files, both 2D and 3D, typically include data that tell the whole story of the design. This information is displayed under Related Data on the Overview page.

The Overview page provides several types of information about the file. This can include, but is not limited to, the following types of information:

Information in Design References and Related Data change depending on file type. In general, this information is relevant to 2D and 3D design file formats. If no Related Data is available for a file or file format (example: Office files), you will not see this section on the Overview page. Similarly the Design Reference section is only shown for relevant file types.

For some types of files, like Office files, images, and others, the file opens directly in the Viewer. In the Viewer, you can click the See Overview button to view file details for these files.

About Design Data

The following types of data, if available for a design, are shown on the File Overview page. Related data type changes based on the design file type. The following types of design data are shown on the Overview page:
  • Views
  • Sheets
  • Models
  • Cam
  • Animation
  • Simulation
  • Renderings
  • Other

About Design References

The following types of design relationships, if available for a Fusion design or assembly, are shown under Design References on the Overview page.
  • Uses: this design uses (this design’s child relationships)
  • Used In: this design is used in (the design’s parent relationship)
  • Drawings: 2D drawings of the design
If a Design Reference has been updated, it is tagged with either New version available or Out of date.
