Overview

Are you considering upgrading your version of Desktop Connector?

If so refer to Update Desktop Connector for more information.

If upgrading from version 15.x to version of 16.x of Desktop Connector refer to Upgrading from v15.x to v16.x as an Individual (Non-Admin) User for additional information.

Important:

You cannot download or update Desktop Connector update from Autodesk Access (Formerly Autodesk Desktop App). Desktop Connector is not listed under the Install or Deployment options in the Custom Install page. Also, it is not supported during the creation of a Custom Install.


Download Installation Files

You can download Desktop Connector installation files from the following locations:


Install Stopped

You have tried to install Desktop Connector and you receive a warning that Desktop Connector is still running.

Installer Extract


Install Walk-Through for Version 16.9 and Above

Important: If you are an admin and would like to deploy or run the install silently, visit the Desktop Connector Administrator Guide to learn how.
  1. Download Desktop Connector as detailed previously in Download Installation Files.

  2. Double-click the .exe file to install/upgrade Desktop Connector.

  3. The installer will unpack and prepare your files for installation.

  4. Once your download is complete you will be presented with a dialog to Open in Folder or Run Installer.

    • Open in Folder: This will open up the folder in File Explorer DC File Explorer Icon where the install files are located.
    • Run Installer: Starts the install of Desktop Connector.

  5. Read and check I agree to Terms of Use and select Next.

  6. You can use the default program file location: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Desktop Connector or change the location.

    Note: Changing the location during an install update (installing newer version over an already installed one) will lose the setting of whether Desktop Connector was in online or offline mode. If new files are added to the workspace while Desktop Connector is in offline mode and before going online, the location of the install is changed through an upgrade install.
    • Best practice is to go offline and then back online to confirm that those files are uploaded to the data source.
    Important: Changing this location will not change the location of where the Desktop Connector workspace is stored.

  7. Select Install.

    Installed Finished

  8. You are now ready to use Desktop Connector.

  9. When the installation finishes, Sign in to get started.


Install Walk-Through for Version 16.8 and Below

Important: If you are an admin and would like to deploy or run the install silently, visit the Desktop Connector Administrator Guide to learn how.
  1. Download Desktop Connector as detailed previously in Download Installation Files.

  2. Double-click the downloaded .exe file and allow it to extract.

  4. You can use the default program file location: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Desktop Connector or change the location.
