Managing Leftover Workspace Files after Reinstallation

When you uninstall Desktop Connector, the databases are removed, but workspace files remain on your device.

Starting from version 16.13, if you reinstall Desktop Connector and still have files from a previous installation on your device, the old Desktop Connector folder will be renamed to prevent conflicts with the new installation. This renamed folder does not sync with the cloud.

To sync the workspace from your new installation with the cloud, simply sign in and select your projects.

Important: All local files from your previous installation, including unsynced files, will remain on your device in the renamed folder. These files haven't been synced to the cloud since Desktop Connector was uninstalled. Because of this, be careful to avoid overwriting newer versions of the files if you choose to move any into the new Desktop Connector folder.

New folder created dialog

If Desktop Connector can't rename the folder for any reason--such as if a file from the previous workspace is open--or if you're using an earlier version of Desktop Connector, you must clear the previous workspace before the new installation can be completed. To learn how to manage this, including the "Desktop Connector folder needs to be cleared" message, refer to Handling Unhealthy Environments.

Note: If you are already running Desktop Connector v16.x, do not uninstall Desktop Connector to upgrade. Simply close Desktop Connector and install the new version on top. For more details, see Update Desktop Connector. To properly uninstall Desktop Connector, view Uninstall Desktop Connector.
