Specifying Symbol Key (SKEY) Values

In the Fabrication products, you can specify shape or symbol key (SKEY) values on pipework fabrication items. The SKEY value identifies the graphical symbol or basic shape that is displayed to represent the object on the isometric when creating an isometric detail. This is typically used for spooling as part of a pipework fabrication workflow.

When exporting pipework fabrication parts from CADmep to a PCF file, valid SKEY data is also exported. For more information, see PCF Export.

Video: Specify SKEY Values

To specify an SKEY value on a single pipework item:

  1. Do one of the following to display the Item Properties dialog:
    • On a drawn item, select the item, then right-click CADmep Properties.
    • In the Item Folders view, right-click Properties to display the Item Properties dialog.
  2. On the Item tab, specify the PCF SKEY value by selecting an SKEY value from the drop-down list.
Note: When a single item is selected, the list of PCF SKEYs displayed depends on the pattern type selected. For example, right-clicking on a coupling (CID 2522) displays only SKEYs that are applicable to coupling objects. Assign the SKEY that is most appropriate for the object.
  3. Click OK to save the change and close the Item Properties dialog.

To specify SKEY values on multiple items, you may need to make sure that the Item PCF SKEY property displays on the Multiple Item Properties dialog. Click the Customize button on the Item Properties dialog to use the Customize Multiple Item Properties dialog. For more information, see Customize Multiple Item Properties.

For more information on SKEYs, see the Piping Component File (PCF) Reference Guide published by Alias Piping Solutions (Alias Limited).
