The Material Type property is assigned when creating a new material.
The Type setting changes the behaviour of the material gauge section on the content. When the Type is set Pipework, for example, the gauge drop-down selection list and content reports display the material specifications.
You must assign a material to the appropriate discipline. This provides the correct field within the materials to input the required data. The Type property also acts as a filter when assigning the material to the items.
The following options are available for Material Type:
- Linear Duct: Specifies material types that are used for linear duct systems.
- For Machines: Specifies material types that are used for materials that are intended to be machine cut or manufactured.
- Pipework: Specifies material types that are used for pipework.
- Electrical Containment: Specifies material types that are used for electrical containment systems.
- Undefined: Parts created or saved in a Fabrication product version 2015 or earlier, or parts that do not have a Material Type specified, will have the Material Type property set as Undefined.
Note: To avoid unexpected results when upgrading, be sure to set the Material Type to something other than Undefined to assign a Material Specification prior to upgrading.
