Set assembly reference timeline behavior preference

Set the Assembly Reference timeline dependency preference to control how assembly references track geometry changes in Fusion.

  1. In the top-right corner, on the Application bar, click My Profile.

  2. Select Preferences.

  3. In the left panel, navigate to General > Design > Assembly and Hybrid Designs.

  4. Under Assembly component in-place edit, open the Assembly Reference timeline dependency dropdown, then select an option:

    • Timeline independent references: References the assembly's most current version and any updates to the referenced geometry in the assembly also update in the external component's reference. References are added to the external component's Browser.

    • Assembly Reference timeline feature: References geometry at a specific point in time in the assembly and any updates to the geometry after the timeline feature doesn't affect the reference. When you create a reference, an Assembly Context is added to the Assembly Reference folder in the Browser and a timeline feature is added to the parent design.

  5. Click OK.

The preference is set according to your selection.

Note: The Assembly Reference timeline dependency preference is unavailable if the Allow assembly references preference is unchecked.
