Enable modeling in an assembly

Learn how to turn on modeling so you can create internal components and geometry in an Assembly design in Fusion.

  1. In an Assembly design, on the design toolbar, switch to the Utilities tab.
  2. Click Modeling Tools to toggle modeling tools status:
    • modeing tools on status icon Modeling Tools on
    • modeing tools off status icon Modeling Tools off

If modeling tools are turned on, modeling toolbars (Solid, Surface, Mesh, Sheet Metal, Plastic) display. If modeling tools are turned off, modeling toolbars are hidden.

Note:

It is best practice to model with external components when possible so you can reuse them in other designs or consume them in downstream workflows like BOM and PLM. Use internal modeling sparingly for geometry references and layout.
