Export designs

Export designs from Fusion and the Fusion web client to other CAD application formats, or as native Fusion files.

Export a design in Fusion

  1. Open the design you want to export.

  2. In the Application bar, click File File icon > Export.

    The Export dialog displays.

  3. In the Export dialog, enter a Name for the exported design.

  4. Select the Type of file to export.

    • Fusion files (*.f3d, *.f3z)
    • 3D Manufacturing Format files (*.3mf) XML-based file designed for additive manufacturing. It describes the properties of a 3D surface, including its vertices, triangular faces, units, colors, and textures.
    • Inventor files (*.ipt, *.iam)
    • AutoCAD DWG files (*.dwg)
    • DXF files (*.dxf) For drawing interchange format. Text files that contain drawing information that other CAD systems can read.
    • FBX files (*.fbx) Format that facilitates high-fidelity data exchange between 3ds Max, Maya, MotionBuilder, Mudbox and other propriety and third-party software.
    • IGES files (*.igs, *.iges) For Initial Graphics Exchange specification. An ANSI standard format for digital representation and exchange of information between CAD/CAM systems.
    • LMV files (*.svf) Simple Vector Format for the Large Model Viewer.
    • OBJ files (*.obj) A simple data format representing geometry using vertex positions, vertex normals, texture coordinate vertices, and polygonal faces (commonly referred to as a mesh) which approximate the geometry shape.
    • SAT files (*.sat) Geometry objects stored in ASCII files.
    • SketchUp files (*.skp)
    • SMT files (*.smt) An export-neutral file type associated with ASM (Autodesk Shape Manager) files.
    • SPD files (*.spd) A file type associated with form-Z.
    • STEP files (*.stp, *.step) An international 3D file exchange format developed to overcome some of the limitations of current data conversion standards.
    • STL files (*.stl) Outputs files of solids, regions, parts, and subassemblies for stereo lithography. The STL format reduces an entire model into multiple flat facets that approximate its shape.
    • USD files (*.usdz) A Universal Scene Description file used to view 3D objects in augmented reality (AR).
  5. Specify the Location to save the file.

  6. Click Export.

  7. Specify the Location to save the file.

  8. Click Export.

The design is exported to the file type you selected and saved in the specified location.

Export a design in the Fusion web client

The export operation does not maintain associativity with the original Fusion design file.

You cannot export Fusion design files that contains external references (*.f3z), as Fusion design files (*.f3d). They can only be exported as other CAD file formats, including *.f3z files.

There are some additional outputs for Drawings (DWG files) described in the Output a drawing help topic.

Export from the Fusion web client

You may export or download both files and folders from your projects. Folders are zipped before being downloaded. Fusion archive files (*.f3d and *.f3z) are included when downloading folders. Fusion Design files are not included in the download. Fusion Design files must be downloaded individually, because a file format must be selected.

Download folders from the Fusion web client

  1. Navigate to the folder you want to download and hover over it.
  2. Click the Download button download icon.
  3. After the files are zipped, follow the prompts to navigate to the local download folder.

Download design files from the Fusion web client

  1. Navigate to the folder you want to download and hover over it.

  2. Select a file format for the design file you want to download.

    download fusion design

  3. Click OK to confirm exporting.

  4. You are sent an e-mail with a link to download the file. Open the e-mail and click the Download file button to download the file to your computer.
