Learn how to insert designs into an assembly in Fusion.

Insert one design into another as an external component

  1. In the Design workspace, select Solid > Insert > Insert Component insert component icon.

    The Insert Component dialog displays.

  2. In the Insert Component dialog, navigate to and select the Fusion design you want to insert.

  3. Click Insert.

    The selected design is inserted into the current design as an external component and the Move/Copy dialog displays.

  4. Position the component:

    • In the canvas, use the manipulators to drag the component.
    • In the Move/Copy dialog, enter Distance and Angle values.
  5. Click OK to finish positioning the component.

The latest version of the design is inserted as an external component. An instance of the external component displays in the Browser. An Insert feature displays in the Timeline. The external component instance is associatively linked to the source design.

Note: If you use Milestone versions, the latest Milestone version is inserted.

Update from a Milestone version to the latest version

If you use milestone icon Milestone versions, you can update beyond the latest Milestone version when newer versions are available.

  1. In the Browser, right-click the external component.
  2. Click Get Latest Version.

The external component updates to the latest version.

Insert files from external companies, such as McMaster-Carr Component or parts4cad

  1. In the Design workspace, expand the Insert drop-down.
  2. Select Insert McMaster-Carr Component or Insert a Manufacturer part.

The design is inserted as an external component.
