Properties

Properties describe your designs, components, and assemblies in Fusion. They help you identify items, track changes, drive the Bill of Materials (BOM), and connect to downstream systems.

What you can do with properties

• Identify items with names, descriptions, and part numbers
• Track state, version, and history
• See physical values like mass and volume
• Drive BOM content shown in assemblies
• Keep data in sync across models and systems

Where to view and edit

• In Fusion: Right-click a component in the Browser and choose Properties.
• In the Fusion web client: Open the item and use the Properties tab.

Shared part numbers

Sometimes you need multiple model variations for the same real-world part. Shared part numbers let you keep one part number with one set of properties and one BOM, while linking all related models. You choose a primary model to define which components appear in the BOM.

Property types you’ll see

• Identity: Name, description, part number
• BOM and assembly: Which components appear and how they roll up
• Physical: Mass, volume, and other derived values
• State and control: Version, locked/read-only, and who can change it

Best practices

• Use clear names and unique part numbers
• Pick a primary model when using shared part numbers
• Avoid editing read-only or locked fields
• Keep properties current to ensure correct BOMs and downstream data
