The steep and shallow toolpath offers enhanced options for its constituent contour, scallop, and parallel toolpaths.

When generating only shallow passes over the model (by using a Threshold Angle of 90 degrees) with the choice of the parallel toolpath, there can appear large gaps between the parallel passes on steep areas.

A more efficient way to machine the steep areas is to generate passes that run in a perpendicular, instead of a parallel, direction. Optimize Parallel Passes adds perpendicular passes to any areas that are steeper than 45 degrees and removes any overlapping parallel passes. This results in a better surface finish on steep areas and avoids over machining the part.
