Create a polar toolpath

  1. On the Manufacture workspace toolbar, select a milling operation that supports polar machining. For example, click Milling > 3D > 3D Offset Roughing (previously known as Pocket Clearing).

    The operation dialog opens.

  2. Program the tool, geometry, heights, and passes as needed.

  3. On the Multi-Axis tab, in the Machining Type group, select Polar.

    The Polar Machining group appears.

  4. From the Mode drop-down menu, select an option:

    • Prefer in control — Uses polar cycles on the control when supported. You can use toolpath radius compensation. If the control does not support polar cycles, the post processor uses In computer.
    • In computer — Outputs arcs with linearized and C-axis moves. Use machine simulation to verify motion.
  5. If you selected In computer, specify Line Angle.

  6. (Optional) On the Linking tab, if Use Rapid Links with Polar Motion is available, select it to optimize rapid links for polar motion. Specify Center of rotation if needed.

  7. Click OK.

The polar toolpath is generated.

Use polar moves with 3-axis machining in a mill/turn setup

  1. Create or edit a milling operation in a mill/turn setup.

  2. On the Multi-Axis tab, in the Machining Type group, leave 3-axis selected.

  3. In the Use Rotations to Fit Limits group, select Allow Polar Moves to permit polar motion when linear moves cannot stay within the machine's travel limits.

  4. When Allow Polar Moves is selected, choose Polar Mode and, if you selected In computer, specify Polar Line Angle.

  5. Click OK.
