Electronics Bill of materials
This Bill of Materials is used to check the completeness of the design and any variants that exist. The bill of materials (BOM) is included in the computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) files.
Five important BOM components are:
- Quantity: Ensure the number of components listed in the BOM is correct, so the correct quantity is purchased.
- Value: Each component should fall within the required range of operating and performance values.
- Reference Designators: Each component must be identified according to its place within the circuit on the PCB.
- Footprint: Components are available in multiple footprints, it's important to specify which one to order.
- Manufacturer Part Number: Unique identifier for a given component used when ordering from distributors or manufacturers.
Flattened designators in the BOM
When Flatten reference designator for module components is enabled in the 2D PCB, the BOM uses flattened reference designators for module components instead of hierarchical designators.
