Select materials in the Generative Design workspace

Learn how to select materials for the generative design process.

  1. On the Define tab, click Materials > Study Materials materials icon.

    The Study Materials dialog opens.

    Note: Alternatively, you can access the Study Materials dialog from the Browser. Right-click a study, and select Study Materials from the context menu.
  2. To select a manufacturing method, in the Methods section, expand the list and select the manufacturing method from the drop-down menu.

    Note: You will find the list of all manufacturing methods defined in your study.
  3. Choose the material library from the Library drop-down list.

    You can select one of the following libraries:

    • Fusion Material Library. The dialog displays only the materials included in the Fusion Material Library.
    • Fusion Additive Material Library (default library). The dialog displays only the materials included in the Fusion Additive Material Library.
    • Fusion Nonlinear Material Library. The dialog displays only the materials included in the Fusion Nonlinear Material Library.
    • Favorites. The dialog displays only the materials added to the Favorites library.
    Tip: To add a material as your favorite, right-click a material from other libraries and select Add to Favorites from the context menu.
  4. Select a material in the Library section and drag it to the In This Study section.

    Tip: Alternatively, you can right-click a material and select Add to Method or Add to All Methods from the context menu.
  5. Click Close.

Tip: You can review or modify the list of materials in the browser. Expand the Manufacturing node and for the selected method, mouse over the Materials node and then click edit browser icon.
