Analyze curvature of surfaces

Learn how to use the Curvature Map Analysis command to analyze the curvature of surfaces in Fusion.

Create a curvature map analysis

  1. Click Inspect > Curvature Map Analysis curvature map analysis icon.

The Curvature Map Analysis dialog displays.

  2. In the canvas, select the Body you want to analyze.

Curvature map gradients display on the body.

  3. In the dialog, select a curvature map Type, and adjust associated settings:

    • Gaussian: Displays gradient as the product of curvature in U and V directions.
      • Display: Displays a smooth or banded gradient.
      • Scale: Specify relative scale of the curvature map gradient.
    • Principal Minimum: Highlights areas with lowest curvature.
    • Principal Maximum: Highlights areas with highest curvature.
  4. Adjust the analysis settings:

    • Opacity: Specify transparency of curvature map gradient.
    • High Quality: Check to increase display quality.
  5. Click OK.

In the browser, the Curvature Map Analysis result displays in the Analysis folder. Click the visibility icon in the browser to show visible icon or hide hidden icon the analysis.

Note: The High Quality setting displays a better quality result in the canvas, but it may impact performance.

Edit a curvature map analysis

  1. In the Browser, expand the Analysis folder.
  2. Right-click the analysis, then click Edit.
  3. In the dialog, adjust the selection set and settings.
  4. Click OK.
