Run a fastener stack analysis

Learn how to use Fastener Stack Analysis to check fastener stacks in your design and see which stacks have issues in Fusion.

You can run the analysis at any time. It is most useful when your design includes fasteners used in a bolted connection (for example bolts or screws, washers, and nuts). For meaningful results, include at least one fastener stack: a combination of holes and those fasteners inserted with Insert Fastener.

  1. In the Assembly Design or Hybrid Design workflow, on the toolbar, click Inspect > Fastener Stack Analysis.

    The Stack Analysis dialog displays.

    The dialog includes:

    • Stack Issues — The number of stacks with issues out of the number of stacks found. Stacks without issues are shown in green; stacks with issues are shown in red.
    • Show Issues only — When unchecked, both stacks with issues (red) and without issues (green) are shown in the canvas. When checked, only stacks with issues are shown in the canvas and highlighted in red.
    • Hide on Active command — When enabled, stack analysis is temporarily hidden anytime an interactive command is running.
    • Advanced settings — Expand to set Engagement Detection Distance, the distance used to determine when two fasteners are considered engaged (defined as a multiple of their nominal diameter).
  2. Review the results.

  3. Optional: Enable Show Issues only to show only stacks with issues (highlighted in red) in the canvas.

  4. In the Browser, expand the Analysis folder to view or manage the analysis results.

The analysis helps you validate that fastener stacks meet design requirements (for example, sufficient thread engagement or correct bolt length).
