Find similar components

Note: This tool is being gradually rolled out to Insiders with the Fusion Design Extension. If you don't see it yet, check back soon.

Use the Find Similar Components tool to locate and reuse similar components in your hub that match a component in your active design in Fusion. The tool uses AI to compare geometry.

The tool runs on components without child components that include solid body geometry. It does not support mesh bodies, surface-only bodies, fastener components, or configured designs. If the selection is not supported, Find Similar Components may be missing from the browser shortcut menu when you right-click.

Find similar components

  1. Click Inspect > Find Similar Components find similar components icon or right-click a supported component in the browser and choose Find Similar Components.

The Find Similar Components panel opens.

  2. If the design is an assembly and the Components with Similar Results list is shown (for example, Components with Similar Results (8)), review the component tiles. Each tile shows the component name, type (for example, Type - Internal component), a match count (for example, 3 components found), and a status chip such as Duplicates Found, Highly Similar Parts Found, or Similar Parts Found.

  3. Select the component you want to find similar matches for, then click View Similar on its tile.

    The Similar Components list appears.

  4. Select a result tile to preview that component in the canvas. Each tile shows the similarity status (Duplicate, Highly Similar, or Similar), type, and last updated info. Click Open on the tile to choose Open in new design, Insert as external component, or Replace component when those actions are available for that result (see Open, insert, or replace from results).

Filter and sort results

  1. With the Find Similar Components panel open and the Similar Components or Components with Similar Results list visible, open Filters.

  2. Expand sections in the Filters flyout to narrow or reorder the list:

    • Show Results by — Select which result categories to show: All Results, Duplicate, Highly Similar, or Similar. All Results is selected by default. Deselect a category to exclude those results from the list.
    • Sort By — Choose Best Match or A–Z.
    • Project — Restrict results to components from specific projects.
    • Component Type — Restrict by type (for example, Internal component, Part Design, External Component, Configured Design).

Best Match appears only when there are at least two components with different similarity statuses and multiple results to compare. It is hidden when only one component is visible or when all components have the same status.

Your filter and sort choices are saved for the next time you run Find Similar Components.

Open, insert, or replace from results

  1. With the Find Similar Components panel open, select a result tile in the Similar Components list.

The component is cross-highlighted in the canvas. Each tile shows the component name, type (for example, Type - Internal component), last updated date and user, and the similarity status: Duplicate, Highly Similar, or Similar.

  2. Click Open on the selected tile and choose one of the following:

    • Open in new design — Opens the similar component in a new design tab.
    • Insert as external component — Inserts the similar component into the active design as an external reference. Unavailable when the selected similar component is an internal component.
    • Replace component — Replaces the source component in the active design with the selected similar component. Unavailable when the selected similar component is an internal component.

The panel closes after the action completes. Click Cancel to close without applying an action.
