Plastic rules

The following tools in the Design workspace, in the Plastic > Setup panel, let you assign and manage plastic rules that control certain settings in the components they are assigned to in Fusion.

You can use the following tools to assign and manage plastic rules:

• Manage Plastic Rules

Assign Plastic Rule

The Assign Plastic Rule tool assigns a plastic rule to a component to automatically control the properties of plastic features, like physical material and thickness.

Select a component, then select a plastic rule to assign to it.

You can expand each rule in the list to see its specific settings:

• Physical material
  • Applied to the component.
• Physical values
  • Thickness, Draft Angle and Nominal Radius, which are referenced as parameters and used by modeling tools such as Extrude, Rib, Web, Boss, Snap Fit, Emboss, Thicken, Shell, Draft.
• Design Advice values
  • Thickness Range, Thickness Variation, Minimum Draft Angle, Knife Edge Threshold.
  • Used by Design Advice to identify manufacturability concerns based on best practices for plastic injection molding, and provide recommendations to address them.

Manage Plastic Rules

The Manage Plastic Rules tool manages plastic rules in the active design to automatically control properties of plastic features, like physical material and thickness.

Create new rules, edit existing rules, or save rules to a library to use them in multiple designs.

Tips

• Assign plastic rules prior to adding parametric features like Shell or Thicken to ensure those features inherit settings and parameters from the plastic rule.
