Sheet metal components
A Component is a container for design elements like sketches, construction geometry, bodies, joints, origins, and even other components.
A Sheet Metal Component is a special type of component. Unlike a Standard Component , it is subject to specific sheet metal rules. These rules describe sheet metal material characteristics and how parts are manufactured. For example, rules will dictate material thickness, bend radius, and corner relief.
There are a few ways to create sheet metal components in Fusion
- Create a new sheet metal component using the sheet metal rule. The rule uses your settings for material thickness, bend radius, and corner relief.
- Create a sheet metal component from the scratch. You use sketch commands to create a profile for a base face or an initial contour flange. Then you exit the sketch and create your sheet metal face and flanges. Default rule is used but you can change or edit used rule.
There are a few ways to convert bodies to sheet metal.
- Convert existing solid bodies that were created in Fusion.
- Convert bodies imported from a different CAD software.
The Convert to Sheet Metal tool applies a Sheet Metal Rule to the body and lets you perform sheet metal operations on the bodies.
Tips
- A sheet metal component cannot be converted back into a regular component.
- Once created, a sheet metal body cannot be moved to another component or be copied and pasted.
- Once attached, a sheet metal rule cannot be detached. You can switch or edit the sheet metal rule.
