Define manual contacts

Prerequisites

You have created one of the following studies in the Simulation workspace: Static stress, Nonlinear static stress, Thermal, Thermal stress, Shape optimization, Modal frequencies, or Structural buckling.

Steps

  1. Click manual contacts icon (Setup tab > Contacts panel > Manual Contacts).

Tip: You can also create new contact sets from within the Contacts Manager by clicking global contacts icon Create Contact Set
  2. Select the Primary Body.

You can only select a single primary body per manual contact pair.

  3. Select the Secondary Body.

You can only select a single Secondary Body per contact pair. For self-contact within a single part, you can choose the same body for both the primary and secondary body.

The selected bodies are isolated (that is, the other bodies are temporarily hidden from view). Also, the focus is on the Primary Body (it appears solid, and the Secondary Body is translucent).

  4. Choose the specific faces on the Primary Body that will participate in contact.

  5. Click the Select button for Selection Set 2.

The focus changes to the Secondary Body.

  6. Choose the specific faces on the Secondary Body that will participate in contact.

  7. Select the desired contact type from the Contact drop-down.

Available contact types depend on the selected study type.

  8. Select the desired Contact Type from the drop-down list.

  9. Select the desired Penetration Type from the drop-down list.

  10. Optionally, adjust any of the basic settings or Advanced Options.

  11. Click OK.
