Manage multiple load cases
For some study types, you can create more than one load case and select which one to apply to the study. These instructions apply only to following study types:
- Static Stress
- Shape Optimization
To add a new blank Load Case
Right-click the active Study node in the browser or an existing Load Case node within the active study, then select New Load Case from the context menu.
To clone an existing Load Case
Right-click an existing Load Case node and choose Clone Load Case from the context menu. The new load case contains all of the constraints and loads that were in the original load case. Then, you can add, remove, or edit individual constraints and loads as needed.
To activate a Load Case
The active load case controls which result contour plot is displayed. There are four ways to activate a load case:
- In the browser, double-click a Load Case node within the currently active Study to activate it.
- Right-click a Load Case node within the currently active Study, then select Activate Load Case from the context menu.
- Click the Activate radio button that appears to the right of a Load Case node in the browser when the cursor is over it.
- Select the desired Load Case radio button in the drop-down menu that appears near the contour plot legend. This load case selector only appears after solving when:
- the Results View is activated, and
- there are multiple load cases defined and activated.
To rename a Load Case
- In the browser, click the Load Case node that you want to rename.
- Click the node again to start the text editing mode.
- Type the desired load case name.
- Press Enter to accept the new name.
To suppress or unsuppress a Load Case
If there is only one load case defined, and you suppress it, a new, empty load case is created automatically.
- Suppress: Right-click an unsuppressed Load Case node in the browser and choose Suppress to exclude that load case from the solution.
- Unsuppress: Right-click a suppressed Load Case node in the browser and choose Unsuppress to once again include the load case in the solution.
Note: If you unsuppress a load case that was suppressed when you last solved the analysis, solve the model again.
To delete a Load Case
- Right-click a Load Case node within the currently active Study, then select Delete from the context menu.
- Click Yes when prompted to confirm the deletion. Alternatively, click No to cancel the deletion.
Note: In a single load case study, deleting the load case removes all applied constraints and loads. However, the Load Case node remains in the browser and remains active.
