Apply an initial linear velocity

The Initial Linear Velocity is used to apply motion to a body at the start of the analysis, to replicate a real-life scenario where the body is already in motion.

These instructions assume you are in the Simulation workspace, and have created an Event Simulation study.

  1. Click initial linear velocity icon (Simulation workspace > Setup tab > Loads panel > Initial Linear Velocity) to open the Initial Linear Velocity dialog.

  2. Select the body that is to be in motion, from within the canvas.

  3. Set the Direction Type.

    • angle icon Angle (delta) enables you to specify the angle of motion, relative to the selected body. Three manipulators appear around the axis location, which you can drag to direct the motion.

      1. Optionally, click select icon Select associated with Reference, and select a reference object to define the angle of the velocity.

      2. Enter the Magnitude for the velocity.

Note: Check that the units are correct.
      3. Enter an angle on each of the X, Y, and Z direction components to define a direction, if you haven't already done so using the manipulators.

    • angle icon Vectors

Enter a specific magnitude for the linear velocity to each of the X, Y, and Z direction components of the selected body, based on the global axes.

  4. Click OK to accept the changes and close the dialog.
