Observations from an inspection can be viewed and edited by clicking on an inspection ID in the Inspections List.
In the Observations tab you can view media, check existing observations against recorded media, and add new observations or media if required.
Validation is run on the inspection and the observations and any errors with the data are flagged immediately. See
Resolve Validation Errors for Inspections.
The observation scores are calculated once the inspection is approved.
Note: It is not possible to add or edit observations for inspections in Approved status.
Add an observation
- Go to Activities, open the inspection type, and click on an inspection ID in the Inspections list.
- Play the video of the CCTV survey and pause the video when you find the defect that you want to report. Or if you already know the exact time of the defect, you can type this in when filling out the observation details.
- Click Add Observation.
- Fill in the observation details. See the section below for more information on each field.
- You can upload a photo of the observed defect, or you can move the video progress bar to the appropriate point and then use the Capture Image button.
- Click Save. The new observation will be positioned in the list based on the distance specified.
Edit an observation
When reviewing existing observations, you can use the three dots icon to the right of the observation to edit or delete the observation.
Observation details
- Distance: Distance from the access point (start of the inspection). Measured in either feet to the nearest tenth or meters to the nearest hundredth.
- Code: The code for the observed defect.
- Continuous Defect: If the defect is continuous, use this field to indicate if this is the start or finish point of the defect. For example, S01 or F01.
- Joint: Mark this if the defect occurs within a certain distance of a joint, as specified in the inspection standard. For example, in PACP, within 8 inches or 200 mm.
- Counter: Time in the video, in seconds, at which the defect is first observed. For example, enter 12 for the time 00:00:12 or 64 for 00:01:04. This will allow you to jump directly to an observation in the video.
- Time: The timestamp in the video at which the defect occurs. This is filled in automatically based either on the counter field or on where you stopped the video and added the defect.
- From Clock Position: The position of a defect relative to a clock position, or the start location of a continuous circumferential defect.
- To Clock Position: The end position of a continuous circumferential defect relative to a clock position.
- Dimension 1: Use this field if a physical dimension is required for the observation. For example, the diameter of a service tap.
- Dimension 2: Use this field if a second physical dimension is required. For example, for a Tap Break-in Intruding, Dimension 1 would be tap diameter and Dimension 2 the distance of the intrusion.
- Percent (%): Used to quantify the percentage of height, cross-sectional area affected, or alignment. This is used for many defects/observations related to deposits, roots, deformations, water level marks and obstruction blockages. These are typically recorded in 5% increments.
- Remark: Use this to record simple explanations or clarifications related to the defect/observation.
For MACP only:
- Step: Mark this if the defect is related to a manhole step.
- Location: The component type (part of the manhole) where the defect is observed. For example, wall interior, frame, steps, etc.
For WSA only:
- Characterisation 1 and Characterisation 2: Use these to describe the defect in more detail.
- Quantification 1 and Quantification 2: Use these to add physical dimensions or other measurable aspects for the observed defect.
For MSCC only:
- Band: The band indicates the severity of the defect.
- Material: The pipe material where the defect occurs.
