About CAD Management

CAD management plays a key role in the deployment and use of the product by a company, but its role can be different from company to company.

Some of the responsibilities of a CAD manager or administrator include:

  • Overseeing a group of users that might include drafters, designers, architects, and engineers
  • Installing the product, or defining the installation options that should be used to install the product by the IT department
  • Customizing the product to be more efficient based on company hardware, workflow, discipline-specific requirements, and CAD standards
  • Providing training to users that they oversee

Specific tasks that are usually associated with CAD management include:

  • Installing and licensing the product
  • Migrating custom settings and files from a previous product release
  • Defining and managing CAD standards
  • Configuring plotters and plot styles
  • Evaluating and integrating new features in the latest or recent product releases
  • Customizing the product and programming applications and utilities
  • Evaluating and purchasing new hardware
