Autodesk Fusion Compute MCP Server
The Autodesk Fusion Compute MCP Server is a cloud-hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets MCP-compatible clients drive Autodesk Fusion headless in the cloud. It offers the same action-focused capabilities as the desktop Autodesk Fusion MCP Server, but runs remotely and at scale, so you can author and modify designs without installing Fusion or tying up your desktop session.
Work runs on Autodesk-hosted infrastructure through the Fusion Automation API. It is complementary to the data-focused Autodesk Fusion Data MCP Server: use the Fusion Data MCP Server to access and manage Fusion data, and the Fusion Compute MCP Server to create and change designs.
- Best for: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, VS Code, Codex, ChatGPT on the web, and other MCP-capable HTTP clients
- Connection: Cloud-hosted — requires authentication with your Autodesk account
- Use it to: author and modify Fusion designs — parametric modeling, manufacturing (CAM) setup, assemblies, document management in Fusion Team, and export — all against a headless cloud session
Public Beta — tools, supported operations, and behavior may change. Share feedback.
Key characteristics
- Cloud-hosted and headless. Fusion runs on Autodesk servers — no local Fusion installation required, and your desktop is never blocked.
- Runs at scale. Sessions run remotely in the cloud, so long-running work does not tie up your machine.
- Authenticated. Requires signing in with your Autodesk account (OAuth 2.1).
- Action-focused. Built for authoring and modifying designs, complementary to the data-focused Autodesk Fusion Data MCP Server.
- Session-based and temporary. Work happens in a cloud session that does not persist. Save your work to Fusion Team before the session ends.
- Dynamic tooling. Available tools are discovered by your MCP client at connection time and may change as capabilities evolve.
Requirements
To use the Autodesk Fusion Compute MCP Server, you must have:
- An Autodesk account (Autodesk ID). Sign up free at autodesk.com.
- An active Fusion license. Cloud operations are checked against your entitlements.
- A Fusion Team hub linked to your account. If you do not have one, see Troubleshooting for how to set one up for free.
- An MCP-compatible client that supports Streamable HTTP and browser-based sign-in (for example, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, VS Code, Codex, or ChatGPT on the web). For setup steps, see Connecting to the Autodesk Fusion Compute MCP Server.
- A network connection to
https://developer.api.autodesk.com.
Capabilities
Capabilities include:
- Parametric modeling — create, read, update, and delete features (extrusions, revolves, fillets, chamfers, patterns, and more) and sketches.
- Manufacturing (CAM) — set up machining operations, create setups, and apply CAM templates.
- Assemblies — create components, place occurrences, set transforms, and manage joints.
- Document management — open, save, and close documents, and browse hubs and projects in Fusion Team.
- Export — export designs as STL or STEP and get a browser-viewable link.
These capabilities are exposed as native tools under the CRUD tool mode. In the default Execute mode, the same work is done by running TypeScript through MCP.ExecuteTypeScript. Choose the mode with the toolMode input on start_fusion — see Tools.
For example, you can ask an AI agent to analyze a part in your Fusion Team project, model fixturing such as soft jaws, generate the milling operations and NC code, and save the results back to Fusion Team — all executed remotely in a stateful cloud session, ready to open later in your Fusion desktop client.
For the tool reference, see Tools. To connect your client, see Connecting to the Autodesk Fusion Compute MCP Server.
