New SubD Modeling workflow

We have created a new Subd workflow preference, which can be selected when you launch Alias. This new workflow combines a customized shelf, control panel, marking menus, hotkeys and display settings. Many of the UI customizations correspond to the Autodesk Maya modeling hotkey configurations and UI color scheme. To select this workflow after launching Alias, select Subdiv from the Workflows menu (Preferences > Workflows > Subdiv) or press the Ctrl + 5 hotkey.

Note that if you copy your preferences from a previous version of Alias to Alias 2021, you will overwrite the new Subdivision modeling hotkey configurations. To recover the hotkey configuration or the preferences, download AutoStudio_AliasHotkeys.scm and Alias_2021_PrefSet.aps from the Alias Sample Files webpage and install them.

General disclaimer

If you are using existing user preferences from an older version of Alias, you may not notice when the default values of options change.

User preferences for Windows are located in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Alias\UserPrefs2021.

If the folder does not exist, it is created the first time Alias 2021 launches. The following dialog appears:

Choose Defaults to accept the new default preferences.

New Layout options

Using the new Make Current Layout Default option (Layouts > User Windows), you can now save your custom window layout as the default layout. You can quickly revert back to the Alias default layout using Reset Default Layout.

Alias Print improvements

Improvements to Alias printing, including the following:

• Line Thickness, which lets you adjust the draw thickness of wireframes and locators for Raster and Vector style printing.
• Vector style printing now supports color.
