Custom Puck Updates (2025.1)

We've made updates to the Custom Puck, which include more customization and new preferences.

Shelf Source

You can now use any shelf, including the default workspace shelves or any custom shelf as an input to the Custom Shelf. A new Shelf Source preference provides a list of the shelves in your set profile.

Select one from the Populate Using list to use as the source for the Custom Puck. By default, this is set to Default Custom Puck Data as the input.

Click the Open Shelf button to open the selected shelf. You can then quickly make any edits to the shelf by adding, removing, or renaming items for its display in the Custom Puck.

New Outer Ring Tabs

Tabs now display along the puck's outer perimeter when your shelf includes more than one outer ring. Select a tab to access its items. To switch between tabs, you can LMB-click, LMB-click and drag on the tabs, or use the mouse wheel while hovering on the outer perimeter. Note that this feature does not change the way you create outer rings.

Improved Hit Zones

We've also reduced the amount screen space occupied by the Custom Puck's hit zones. For example, objects can now be placed, selected, and manipulated around the puck's perimeter. In the previous version of Alias, these areas could not be used.

Tab Control

A new Tab Control preference in General Preferences > Custom Puck lets you choose how the middle-mouse wheel scrolls through the center tabs. You can now choose between the following:

  • Wrap Around - Scrolling past the last tab takes you back to the start. This is the default setting.
  • Stop At Start/End - Scroll between the first and last tab, stopping at the start/end. Turn the mouse wheel in the opposite direction to scroll back through the tabs.

Renamed Custom Puck Preferences

You'll also notice that we've also renamed and grouped previous Custom Puck preferences. This includes:

  • Navigation Control and Marking Menus are now grouped under Center Controls.
  • Max Item in Ring has been renamed to Maximum Items and is now under Inner Ring.

For more information, see Custom Puck Preferences.

Hotkeys

We've moved the option for setting the clutch key from the Custom Puck Preferences to the Hotkey Editor. Both hotkeys for opening and toggling the Custom Puck can now be reconfigured in the Special > Custom Puck section of the Hotkey Editor. By default, the clutch key for opening the Custom Puck is still assigned to the Z key.
