Locator Updates (2025.1)

In Alias 2025.1 Update, we've provided additional updates and improvements to the Curve Curvature locator and the Surface to Surface Deviation locator.

Curve Curvature Locator

The accuracy of Max and Min Radius values displayed in-canvas are no longer dependent on the sample density of the curvature comb plot. These measurements are now taken at points along the curve, which are independent of the curvature comb. This makes the measurements more consistent and a true measure of minimum and maximum radius.

In previous versions of Alias, Max and Min Radius measurements were taken from comb sample points. This means that the accuracy of the measurement is influenced by the comb Samples value. For example, higher density combs resulted in more accurate measurements.

Note that the Curve Curvature tool now produces Max and Min Radius values for curves in Alias 2025.1 Update that are different from other versions of Alias. Also, this improvement now makes the tool more responsive since you no longer need to have high comb density values for the most accurate Min and Max measurements.

The maximum radius (max R) value now displays as infinite to indicate that the curve is approaching a straight line at that point. In previous versions of Alias, points approaching a straight line were indicated by a value of 1.0.

When Inflection Points is on, a red arrow still displays points as in previous version.

Max Deviation

We've improved the accuracy of Max Deviation values in the Surface to Surface Deviation locator. Now, Max Deviation is calculated the same way as Min Deviation, which is a true deviation calculation independent of the comb plot density.
