Specify a base point for the project.
Many software implementations for models require local geometry, positioned close to a model origin. This particularly happens for project planning or focus on buildings, where the extent of the model is typically small. Often, this requirement exists because of the use of single precision for speed and efficiency to improve performance. If geometry is remote from the origin, this software often shows distortion or appears to show nothing at all.
IFC model exports can still georeference a model by using a project base point. Geometry is defined relative to this base point origin. The first export of a Civil 3D model to IFC generates a COGO point with a reserved name to nominate a project base point, based on model extents, such as alignment extents. If required, the COGO point can be relocated to a preferred location by the user, which might be mandated by a client or contractor that receives the resultant IFC export.
To define the IFC basepoint
- Click Add-ins tab
IFC Infrastructure panel
Set IFC Basepoint
.
- In your drawing, select the 3D point representing your project basepoint.
A labeled COGO point is placed at the specified point. Pre-existing base points are relocated to the newly specified point.
