About Specifying a Point of Beginning and Point of Closure

Specify a point of beginning as a base point, and optionally specify another location as the point of closure.

When you specify a point of beginning, the Coordinate Geometry Editor requires that you specify a point of closure:

  • Use the point of beginning as the point of closure, which creates a closed traverse loop.
  • Specify a different control point as the point of closure, which keeps the traverse loop open.

Specify a point of beginning and a point of closure using either COGO point data or Easting and Northing values:

Point Name/Number

Easting (X) and Northing (Y)

  • Enter a COGO point name or number.
  • Click to select a COGO point in the drawing.
  • Enter coordinates in the Easting (X) and Northing (Y) cells.
  • Click to specify an Easting (X) and Northing (Y) location in the drawing.

In the drawing, glyphs are displayed to indicate the point of beginning and point of closure .
