To Create and Work With Surface Reference Boundaries

To add boundaries to surface references

To mask the display of a surface data shortcut in a drawing, you can define a boundary from an existing polyline or sketch a new polyline.

  1. Select the placed surface data reference in the drawing.
  2. Click Surface Data References tab Modify panel Add Reference Boundary .
  3. Create your partial surface reference boundary in one of two ways.
    • Click an existing closed geometry polyline boundary in the drawing.
    • Press Enter and sketch a closed polyline boundary. Press Enter when finished.

Partial surface reference boundaries must be closed geometry and not self-intersecting.

  4. Click Surface Data References tab Modify panel Update Reference Surface to view the new partial surface reference.
  5. To remove a surface reference boundary, select the surface data reference and click Surface Data References tab Modify panel Delete Reference Boundary .

Tip: In the Create Surface Reference dialog box, you select Reference part of the surface to initiate the boundary creation process while creating and placing the surface reference.

To modify surface reference boundaries

Modify surface reference boundaries as you would any polyline geometry.

  1. Select the boundary geometry.
  2. Use the grips and contextual commands, you can add vertices, stretch geometry, and convert segments to arcs.
  3. Press Enter when complete.
  4. Click Surface Data References tab Modify panel Update Reference Surface to view the new partial surface reference.
Note: Whenever the surface reference boundary is edited and updated, you will be prompted to update or keep the existing surface reference name.
