How to Use the Installation Log Collection Tool

Issue:

The Installation Log Collection Tool collects logs related to Autodesk products installed.
This information is helpful when troubleshooting installation issues.

The tool automatically collects and archives the following files into a zip format: 

  • version xml.
  • Install db, package db, and localcache db.
  • logs.
  • Files with .log extension are located in the System Temp and the user's TEMP directory. 
  • (Windows only) All registry entries under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Autodesk and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
  • (Windows only) Access Assets folder.

Environment:

  • Windows 11.
  • Windows 10.
  • macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 and later.
  • CentOS 7.

Solution:

Log File Collection Instructions

  1. Download the Log Collection Tool for the following:
  2. Do one of the following to collect all log files:
    • On Windows:
      • Double-click the AdskODISLogCollectionTool executable.
        or
      • Go to the command line prompt and run the command: .\AdskODISLogCollectionTool.exe
    • On macOS and Linux:
      1. Add execute permission using the following command: chmod a+x ./AdskODISLogCollectionTool.
      2. Double-click the executable or run from terminal: ./AdskODISLogCollectionTool
Note: on macOS, running AdskODISLogCollectionTool may give you a security warning message as below. 

"LogCollectionTool_mac" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.  

To change the settings, perform the following steps:
  • From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
  • Select Security & Privacy.
  • Click Open Anyway.
    Note: If the Open Anyway option is not visible. Control-click the app icon, then choose Open from the shortcut menu. 
  1. Provide the zip file to the Autodesk Support agent you are working with or attach it to your Support Case.
