About Connecting Assets

You can quickly connect assets together by asset chaining.

Certain types of factory assets such as conveyors, safety fencing, and walls are always connected or "chained" together. However, placing and connecting many assets can be tedious and time-consuming. AutoCAD Factory provides the ability to quickly create connected assets using a procedure called Asset Chaining.

The asset path can be manually created using a combination of straight lines arcs, or 90 degree turns. The asset type selected determines whether arcs or 90 degree turns are available for the path. A second method is to use a predefined AutoCAD polyline as the path for the chained assets. After sending the 2D layout to Inventor Factory, the chained 2D assets are automatically replaced with their 3D equivalents and an associative link is created between the 2D DWG and the 3D factory floor layout. The link can later be broken.

Chainable assets are represented in the Asset Browser with this icon .

The following asset types are supported:

  • Conveyors (Belt, Chain, Roller)
  • Safety Equipment (Fence, Handrail, Guardrail)
  • Walls
  • Cable Trays
  • Electrical Conduits
  • Straight Pipes
