Autodesk Flame Family Cloud Reference Implementation Guide

Autodesk Flame Family products can run on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This reference implementation guide provides basic and foundational guidelines on how to deploy Flame Family products on AWS.

The document provides reference implementations as a starting point to help system integrators design and configure production environments according to their customers' workflows and requirements.

Note:

The AWS technology and services required to deploy Flame Family products might not be available in your AWS region. Work with AWS and your technology partners to make sure that your region meets the deployment requirements.

The following AWS services and technologies are essential to deploy Flame Family products on AWS:

  • AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)
  • AWS Transit Gateway (IGMPv2)
  • High performance GPU-based instances with NVIDIA GPU. At least G4dn.8xlarge (other recommended options: G5.8xlarge, G6.8xlarge, G6e.8xlarge, Gr6.8xlarge).

This reference implementation guide provides:

  • Reference Autodesk Flame Family product implementations on AWS
  • Procedures to create the required Amazon Machine Image (AMI) to deploy the reference implementations
  • Recommended security settings, including Virtual Private Cloud security groups and Transit Gateway configuration
  • Recommended instance configurations for each of the instances listed in the reference implementations
  • Recommended media storage solutions

To make the most of this guide, you should be familiar with AWS and Autodesk Flame Family products.

Important:

Autodesk does not assume responsibility for changes in the AWS platform that impact your Autodesk Flame Family cloud deployment. AWS technology and services availability are subject to change. The information provided in this guide is based on AWS technology and services available in Spring 2022.

The following links provide other AWS deployment examples that could help better understand AWS workflows for content creation:

How to use this document

This document has been developed to help you deploy an Autodesk Flame Family cloud-based reference solution.

  1. Pick a solution from the Reference Configurations for Autodesk Flame Family Cloud Deployment

  2. Create the Amazon Machine Images you need using Creating Autodesk Flame Family AMIs

  3. Configure your AWS cloud using AWS Virtual Private Cloud Configurations

  4. Choose and deploy a storage solution based on guidelines from Media Storage for Autodesk Flame Family products Cloud Deployment

  5. Create and Deploy your instances:

    1. Project Server, if any
    2. Flame (including Flame Assist, Flare), as required
    3. Burn node, as required
  6. Connect to your Flame using a remote display solution like HP Anyware or AWS NICE DCV.

AWS AMI Updates

Autodesk provides a Rocky Linux 9.3 AMI. The AMI comes configured with the tools required to use Flame Family in the cloud. Download it from the Flame Family Linux (ISO, AMI) and DKU page.

Make sure to use the right AMI version for your version of Flame Family application.

Flame Family 2025 requires the ROCKY LINUX 9.3 V7 AMI. It contains the following updated components:

  • DKU 19
  • NVIDIA Grid driver 16.4 (535.161.07)
  • Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) 1.31
  • pcp-6.0.5-4
  • sssd-2.9.1-4

Flame Family 2024.2 Update requires the ROCKY LINUX 8.7 V6 AMI. It contains the following updated components:

  • DKU 18.2
  • NVIDIA Grid driver 535.104.05
  • pcp-5.3.7-17.el8_8
  • sssd-2.8.2-3.el8_8

Flame Family 2024.1 Update requires the ROCKY LINUX 8.7 V5 AMI. It contains the following updated components:

  • DKU 18.1
  • NVIDIA Grid driver 525.125.06
  • Cloud Digital Interface (CDI) 3.0.1
  • Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) 1.24
  • Elastic Network Adapter (ENA) 2.8.8g Update
Note: AWS added G5 instances to more regions. See this AWS page.

Flame Family 2024 does not support CentOS 7.6. To use Flame 2024 products, you need to create Rocky Linux 8.7 instances or install it on an existing Rocky Linux 8.5 instance.

You can also migrate an existing Rocky Linux 8.5 instance to Rocky Linux 8.7 by following the steps described in the Flame Family Installation Guide.

The Rocky Linux 8.5 AMI is no longer available.

HP Anyware Update

Flame 2025 products support HP Anyware 24.03. For details see:
