Thinning a TIN ground model
You can reduce the size of a TIN Ground Model by removing a percentage of the points that it contains. You do this by creating a new TIN ground model based on an existing TIN ground model in your database. You specify a percentage reduction in the number of points the new ground model will contain.
To reduce the size of a TIN Ground Model:
- On the Model Group window or Explorer window, right click a Ground Model TIN group and choose New | Ground Model TIN from the context menu. This displays the Create New TIN Ground Model dialog.
- enter a name for the new TIN ground model
- drag and drop an existing TIN ground model into the Ground Model TIN box on the dialog, or use the Browse button to browse for a ground model. Do not include any other source data for the new ground model
- check the Show sizes box in the Thinning section of the dialog. The Current Size box displays the number of points contained in the existing ground model. You can adjust the Point Reduction percentage to set how much smaller you want the new ground model to be. An estimate of the number of points in the new ground model is given in Compressed Size.
- click OK to start the creation process
