Connecting the sprue direct to the cavity
If you do not require a runner system, and you only want to have your sprue connected directly to your cavity, you can use a simple modeling technique.
Open a model, insert an injection location, and make sure you are in Single Cavity mode.
Click
(Geometry tab > Mold panel > Set Parting Plane).
Click the injection cone.
This will move the parting plane so that it runs through the point at which the injection location enters the cavity.
Increase the Z depth plane value about 1 to 2 mm, then click OK.
Click
(Geometry tab > Properties panel > Defaults > Sprue Properties) from the drop-down list.
Define the sprue, then click
(Geometry tab > Properties panel > Defaults > Gate Properties), and make sure the gate Start Diameter (1) is equal to the sprue Diameter (1) . Click OK.
Select the Front View plane on the ViewCube to orientate the model so that you can see the injection point.
Click
(Geometry tab > Feed System panel > Sprue).
Click above the injection cone to position the sprue, and then click OK.
Note: To align the sprue with the injection point, it may be necessary to deselect the Snap to grid option.
Click
(View tab > Visibility panel > Object Visibility) then select Runner System.
This will make it easier to add the gate.
Select the Bottom View plane on the ViewCube to orientate the model so that the injection point and the bottom of the sprue are both visible.
Tip: If necessary, click
Zoom window on the Navigation Bar and drag a box over this area to get a clearer view.
Click
(Geometry tab > Feed System panel > Gate).
Select an injection point from the Select drop-down list.
Select the Defined by coordinate checkbox.
Place your cursor in the model pane, and click at the bottom of the sprue to connect the injection location to the sprue.
The sprue coordinates will appear in the Create gate dialog.
Tip: You also enter the relative or absolute coordinates.
Click OK to save and close the dialog.
