Select a material using supplier and trade names
Use the material database search facility to select a polymer, using the name of the supplier and the trade name of the material.
Before selecting a material, you must open a project and select a study, or create a new project and import a model.
Download the files for this tutorial from Autodesk Knowledge Network.
Click
(Start & Learn tab > Launch panel > New Project).
The Create New Project dialog appears.
Enter Material in the Project name field.
Click OK.
Click
(Home tab > Import panel > Import).
The Import wizard-Model Selection dialog appears.
Click
Browse
Navigate to where you installed the tutorial files.
Select cellphone.stl and click Open.
Step through the Import Wizard accepting the defaults.
You must set an injection location before selecting a material.
Click
(Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Injection Locations) and click anywhere on the model to set an injection location.
Click
Injection Locations again, to finish setting the injection location.
Click
(Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Select Material).
The Analysis Wizard dialog appears with the Material tab displayed.
Select the Specific material radio button and expand the Manufacturer drop-down list.
Select Mitsubishi Group from the list and expand the Trade name drop-down list.
This displays the available materials in the database that are from this manufacturer.
Select Novatec P8506J.
Click Details.
The Thermoplastics material dialog appears detailing the material properties.
Select the Rheological Properties tab, then click Plot Viscosity to view the range of viscosity measurements available for this material.
Note: ClickExamine Result from the bottom left hand corner of the dialog, then click on a specific point on the graph to determine its value.
Click Close to return to the Thermoplastics material dialog.
Click OK and Finish to select this material.
Novatec P8506J: Mitsubishi Group is now listed in the Study Tasks pane as the material and will be used in subsequent analyses.
