Deflection results

The deflection results shows the deformed representation of all surfaces of the warped part.

Warpage Results

There are eight sets of deflection results and 4 warpage indicator results. To create these results, run a Warp analysis.

Deflection, all effects:Deflection:

The Deflection, all effects result result combines differential cooling, differential shrinkage and orientation effects to show the final part warpage.

Warpage indicator, all effects:

The Warpage indicator, all effects result highlights those areas of the part where the out-of-plane deflections are approaching or exceeding the specified nominal maximum deflection value.

Deflection, all effects:Normal Component:

The Deflection, all effects: Normal Component result displays the component of the total warpage calculated in the direction normal to the surface.

Deflection, differential cooling:Deflection:

The Deflection, differential cooling result shows the final part warpage due to uneven cooling.

Warpage indicator, differential cooling:

The Warpage indicator, differential cooling result highlights those areas of the part where the out-of-plane deflections attributable to these differential cooling effects are approaching or exceeding the specified nominal maximum deflection value.

Deflection, differential cooling:Normal Component:

The Deflection, differential cooling: Normal Component result displays the component of the warpage due to cooling calculated in the direction normal to the surface.

Deflection, differential shrinkage:Deflection:

The Deflection, differential shrinkage result shows the final part warpage due to the variation in shrinkage across the part.

Warpage indicator, differential Shrinkage:

The Warpage indicator, differential shrinkage result highlights those areas of the part where the out-of-plane deflections attributable to these differential shrinkage effects are approaching or exceeding the specified nominal maximum deflection

Deflection, differential shrinkage:Normal Component:

The Deflection, differential shrinkage: Normal Component result displays the component of the warpage due to differential shrinkage calculated in the direction normal to the surface.

Deflection, orientation effects:Deflection:

The Deflection, orientation effects result shows the final part warpage due to the material orientation throughout the part. If the material is fiber filled, this corresponds to the fiber orientation in the part.

Warpage indicator, orientation effects:

The Warpage indicator, orientation effects result highlights those areas of the part where the out-of-plane deflections attributable to these orientation effects are approaching or exceeding the specified nominal maximum deflection value.

Deflection, orientation effects:Normal Component:

The Deflection, orientation effects: Normal Component result displays the component of the warpage due to material orientation effects calculated in the direction normal to the surface.

Viewing the normal components

The Deflection, all effects:Deflection plot shows the total predicted deformation of the part.

The Deflection, all effects:Normal Component plot shows how much the part deviates, perpendicular to the original model surface. Positive values indicate outward deflection while negative values indicate inwards deflections of the surface.

Using this result

Warpage results can be displayed using two methods: the best fit technique (default) or user-defined anchor plane. Users can manually set up these Warpage Constraints. These can be applied using the Warp Constraints panel. warpage constraints icon (Results tab > results > Warpage Constraints).

Use the Plot Properties dialog, Deflection tab to alter the scale factor or overlay the undeformed part.

If the deflection values are small, increase their visibility by adjusting the scale factor in the Plot Properties dialog. This is located on the Deflection tab of the Plot Properties dialog. Deflection results can also be animated using the animation tools. The animation illustrates the change in shape of the part from the undeflected geometry (scale factor = 0) to the final deflected geometry using the specified scale factor. The component deflection plots are useful for assessing the amount of deformation in a specific direction.

Use the examine icon Examine Result tool to see the deformation at selected position on the surface of the part.
