Flow front velocity
The Flow front velocity result represents the velocity of the flow front advancement when the flow front reaches a specific point in the mold cavity.
This result is generated from either a Fill or Flow analysis using 3D analysis technology. This result is available for all thermoplastic injection molding processes, including overmolding, gas, compression and injection compression molding.
Using this result
Variation in the flow front speed across the mold surface is highlighted by the Flow front velocity result. This result highlights areas of hesitation or acceleration. Variation in flow front velocity can impact the visual quality of the finished part.
Ideally, the speed of the flow front is uniform as the part fills, especially in areas where surface appearance is important.
Things to look for
- Areas of low flow front velocity might indicate hesitation.
- Uneven flow front veocity in a section of a part where visual quality is important can result in an uneven appearance.
