To assign valve gate controllers

You can assign valve gate controllers to:

  • Beam elements with the property type Hot gate for all flow solvers
  • Tetrahedral elements with the property type Hot gate (3D) for flow analyses using the 3D mesh type
  • Elements with the property type Overflow well when you are running a Gas-assisted Injection Molding process

Model the feed system, or if there is no feed system, use at least three elements along the hot gate's length.

If the hot gate is a group of beam elements, assign the valve gate controller to the hot gate element attached to the part.

If the hot gate is a group of tetrahedral elements, assign the same valve gate controller to all hot gate elements at a gate.

  1. Click (Boundary Conditions tab > Feed System panel > Valve Gate Controller) and select Assign to elements.

  2. Identify all the hot gates that will use this valve gate controller and select each one, while holding the Ctrl key.

Note: For each beam hot gate, you must select only the element connected directly to the part.

  3. Click OK when you have finished selecting elements at each gate using this controller.

  4. Select the valve gate controller that you want to use, by selecting the row in the table that lists it, then click Select.

Note: Details of each controller are listed in the table.

If you have not yet set up a valve gate controller, you can click View/Edit to pick the default controller. You can then edit the controller's properties and save it with a new name.
