Cure Kinetics Model dialog

The n-th order reaction kinetics (Kamal model) is used to calculate the curing behavior of a thermoset material. See the Cure Kinetics model for an explanation of the parameters.

Once the Compute Results has been run, the Cure Kinetics Model should display the fitted coefficients.

IMPORTANT Fitting of raw cure kinetics data will only fit the m, n, A1, A2, E1 and E2 parameters. The Heat of Reaction (H), and Induction Time parameters (B1 & B2) will not be fitted to the raw Cure Kinetics data because they require alternative data. So the H, B1 and B2 must be entered manually.

Cure Kinetics Model Fit

Troubleshooting

Depending on the raw data, the fitting algorithm may not produce an ideal fit. If this is the case:

  • Review the raw data to check for any issues such as the following, and remove any suspect data points:
    • Overlapping heating runs (for non-isothermal results) or isotherms (for isothermal results)
    • Inconsistent dependency of heating rate (non-isothermal results) or temperature (for isothermal results)
  • If the raw data looks to be ok though the fitting algorithm is still having issues matching the raw data, start adjusting the m and n values, and use the Fit Kamal Model to try different starting points for the fitting optimisation
  • Where the model is unable to match all sections of the raw data, concentrate on fitting the conditions closer to what will be experienced in the Moldflow simulation, such as higher heating rates or filling temperatures.
