Quick Start

The Quick Start guide offers an overview of the process for transforming raw data into a Moldflow UDB file using Autodesk Moldflow Data Fitting.

For Themoplastics:

  1. Create a new material input data file (.aml)

    • Click (File > New) to generate a blank data file
    • Click (File > Save) to save data file to preferred location
  2. Fill essential material data

    • General Information (Compulsory)
    • Filler (If applicable)
    • Processing and Design (Compulsory)
    • Specific Heat (Compulsory)
    • Thermal Conductivity (Compulsory)
    • Viscosity Input (Compulsory)
    • PVT Input (Compulsory)
    • Mechanical Input (Compulsory)
  3. Fill optional material data if available

  4. Check quality of material data

    • Click (Check Input) to validate provided material data
    • Error messages need to be fixed before proceeding to fit model
    • Data with Warning messages can still be fit
  5. Data fitting to relevant models

    • Click (Compute Results) to fit the following material data to models:
      • Viscosity Model
      • PVT Model
      • Ramberg-Osgood Stress-Strain Model (if data is provided)
  6. Check quality of fitted data

    • Click (Check Results) to validate fitted Viscosity, PVT and Ramberg-Osgood Stress-Strain Model
    • Error messages need to be fixed before proceeding to generate material data file (.udb)
    • Data with Warning messages can still be exported
  7. Generate material database file (.udb)

    • Click (Generate UDB) to save material database file (21000.udb) to preferred location

For Thermosets:

  1. Create a new material input data file (.aml)

    • Click (File > New Thermoset) to generate a blank data file
    • Click (File > Save) to save data file to preferred location
  2. Fill essential material data

    • General Information (Compulsory)
    • Filler (If applicable)
    • Processing and Design (Compulsory)
    • Specific Heat (Compulsory)
    • Thermal Conductivity (Compulsory)
    • Raw Cure Kinetics (Model entry only)
    • Raw Reactive Viscosity (Model entry only)
    • Raw PVT (Uncured) (Compulsory)
    • Raw PVT (Cured) (Compulsory)
  3. Fill optional Mechanical Input data if available

  4. Check quality of material data

    • Click (Check Input) to validate provided material data
    • Error messages need to be fixed before proceeding to fit model
    • Data with Warning messages can still be fit
  5. Data fitting to relevant models

    • Click (Compute Results) to fit the following material data to models:
      • PVT Model (Uncured)
      • PVT Model (Cured)
      • Cure Kinetics Model, enter model coefficients
      • Reactive Viscosity Model, enter model coefficients
  6. Check quality of fitted data

    • Click (Check Results) to validate fitted Uncured and Cured PVT Models
    • Error messages need to be fixed before proceeding to generate material data file (.udb)
    • Data with Warning messages can still be exported
  7. Generate material database file (.udb)

    • Click (Generate UDB) to save material database file (20030.udb) to preferred location
