AutoCAD Related File Extensions Reference

List of file extensions related to AutoCAD-based products.

The following is a list of the most common file extensions or types that are created while using the product, or that a user can create or customize to extend the product.

    CAD Standards Files

  • DIM – Exported Dimension Style file (Express Tools – DIMEX/DIMIM commands)
  • LAS – Exported Layer State file (LAYERSTATE command)
  • LIN – Linetype file (LINETYPE command)
  • MLN – Multiline Style file (MLINE command)
  • PAT – Hatch Pattern file (HATCH command)

    Customization Files

  • ACTM – Legacy Action Macro file; created with AutoCAD 2024 and earlier releases
  • ACTMX – Action Macro file (ACTRECORD command)
  • ARX – ObjectARX file
  • ATC – Tool Palette Catalog file
  • BMP – Bitmap file used with Customization files
  • CUI – Customization file (CUI command)
  • CUIx – Customization file (CUI command)
  • CRX – Console Runtime Extension file; similar to an ARX file except no user interface
  • DBX – ObjectDBX file
  • DCE – Dialog Error Log file
