Manage and track change process effort

You can track effort across the change process in several ways.

Target efforts in the change approval template

When you define the standard set of tasks on a change approval template, you may enter target efforts to provide guidance during change execution.

Target effort on a change request

When a change request (CR) is created from a change approval template, the Task Planning tab is populated with all tasks assigned to the change request proces. It also copies in the target effort that was entered in the change approval template. You may adjust this for your specific CR if required. Totals are calculated automatically.

In addition to this, you may also break down the planned effort for the change request in the Efforts Assessment section of the main tab of the CR.

Target effort on a change order

After a change request reaches the Change Order in progress state, the system adds the total estimated effort from the CR to the Total Planned CR Efforts field in the Effort Tracking section of the change order (CO).

When the CO is created, the Task Planning tab is populated with all tasks from the change approval template assigned to the change order process. It also copies in the target effort that was entered in the change approval template. You may adjust this for your specific CO if required. Totals are calculated automatically and added to the Total Planned CO Efforts field in the Effort Tracking section of the CO.

Actual effort across the change process

As you complete tasks for both CRs and COs, you enter actual effort in the Efforts tab of the tasks. When you complete the task, the system adds the total actual effort for that task to the Schedule & Effort section of the main tab of the task.

Actual effort is tallied across all tasks for the CR and CO and added to the Total Actual column in the Effort Tracking section on the CO. This makes it easy to view and compare expected and actual efforts across the entire change process in one place. This may help you better plan for the next change process and adjust the change approval template accordingly.
