D1 - Form the team
The first stage in the 8D process is to form the team who will carry out the steps required at each phase. This determines who can progress the workflow - while the process owners always have full control, the selected assignees only get involved in the defined steps, and with this are granted permission for the specific step. Fill out all relevant information in the D1 – Team Formation section in the main 8D Report tab.
Click Edit.
In each phase column, click the Assignees field to select the person or people who will oversee the step.
In the Target Completion field, click to select a target date to complete each phase.
This can be used for analysis once the process is complete to understand where timings were off for better planning in the future. These dates drive the milestone information in the Milestones tab, allowing for easy time tracking and reporting.
Click Save.
To drive process efficiency, the selected team members receive automatic e-mail notifications when the process reaches the given workflow status. At this stage, they will also find the 8D report in their My Outstanding Work list in the main dashboard.
Once the team is formed, you can proceed to the next phase.
- Click the Cancel Report transition if the report was created in error or is no longer needed.
- Click the Start D2 Problem Description transition to move to the D2 phase.
- Click the Start D3 Containment Actions Implementation transition if the description of the problem has already been captured.
