Edit Items in a BOM

You can edit BOM line items, change line item costing, and remove items from a BOM. You can change the numbering and quantity of items in a BOM. You can also add references for matching items when importing a BOM update. Item revisions can be specified and pinned. Pinning allows you to lock a particular revision of an item in the context of a parent assembly. When an item has a pinned relationship to a child, that child is always selected regardless of the date or the revision bias. A pinned relationship always overrides any other configuration option. Pinning an item does not pin the item's children. The released assembly shows the latest released revisions of the children if they are not pinned to a revision.

  1. Click the Bill of Materials tab.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Change the number in the first column to change the position of the item in the BOM.

  4. From the Revision drop-down, select which revision of the item to use.

Note: If you choose a prior revision of a child, the item is automatically pinned. If you unpin a child, the revision automatically reverts to the latest revision that is in effect.
  5. To pin an item so it is used in the assembly until it is unpinned and a new revision of the assembly is released, click in the Pin column corresponding to the item.

Note: Level-by-level comparison is possible when all the items in the BOMs being compared are pinned.
  6. Enter a quantity for the item.

  7. Click Add to add items to the BOM. Select the items from the list and then click Add.

The selected items are now included in the bill of materials. If an assembly item is added, the assembly's children are added to the bill of materials as well.

Note: Edited values are indicated with a blue triangle in the corner. New items are indicated with a blue bar.
  8. Click Save.
